UCLA's game day comes with a commute and a payoff: the campus is in Westwood, but home games are twenty-six miles away at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena — which means Bruin fans tailgate on a golf course beside the most beautiful stadium in America, in October sunshine, with the San Gabriel Mountains going purple at dusk. There are worse arrangements.
The Mascot
Joe and Josephine Bruin are the costumed bears, and the powder blue and gold they wear is the best color scheme in college sports — fight us. The 8-Clap is the signature: an eight-count clap sequence building into 'U-C-L-A, UCLA, fight, fight, fight!' that every Bruin learns at orientation and performs at every opportunity for the rest of their lives, including weddings.
The Saturday
The Rose Bowl at golden hour is the single best visual in the sport — the light comes over the rim, the arroyo turns gold, and even neutral fans concede the point. Bruin game day is arrive-early, stay-late Southern California leisure, plus a heavyweight crosstown rivalry: when USC week comes, the Bruin statue on campus gets wrapped protectively, because history.
What to Wear
Our vintage Westwood line is hand-drawn bruin art in powder blue and gold on garment-dyed tees and caps. It may be the best-looking set in our whole store, and we're not sorry. Start with all Los Angeles gear.
